After years as a hometown race, the anti-trafficking run becomes a destination team event, and runners everywhere are invited to join.
Sacramento, Calif. September 24, 2026. 3Strands Global Foundation, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit working to end human trafficking through prevention education, survivor empowerment, and community mobilization, today announced that its Break Free Run is going from a close-to-home race into a destination team event at the Rock ‘n’ Roll Arizona weekend, January 16 and 17, 2027, in Tempe and Phoenix.
“For years, we laced up close to home to help prevent human trafficking, and every stride reminded us that prevention starts with connection,” said Ashlie Bryant, CEO and co-founder of 3Strands Global Foundation. “Taking Team Break Free to Rock ‘n’ Roll Arizona widens that circle. We are inviting runners everywhere to join us, because every mile helps a student recognize the warning signs and helps a survivor build a future on their own terms.”
Runners of all levels are invited to join Team Break Free across 5K, 10K, and half marathon distances. Participants join the team, create a personal fundraising page, and commit to raising at least $500. 3SGF provides each team member’s race entry as part of the campaign. Funds support prevention education in schools and services that help survivors build safe, independent futures.
The destination format adds a full team weekend, including a welcome dinner with impact stories and packet pickup on Friday, January 15, and team gatherings across race weekend. To help with travel, 3SGF reimburses documented race-weekend travel and lodging for runners who reach higher fundraising milestones: up to $500 for those who raise $2,500, and up to $1,000 for those who raise $5,000.
The need is urgent. On any given day, nearly 50 million people experience human trafficking, including 27.6 million in forced labor (Global Estimates of Modern Slavery: International Labour Organization, Walk Free, and IOM, 2022). Prevention education reaches people before exploitation starts, and every registration helps put it in more classrooms and communities.
“I have two very close friends who were affected by human trafficking and sexual abuse. No one listened. No one saw or recognized the signs of the abuse they endured as innocent children. They are both grown women now who have overcome their trauma with the help of our faithful God, the right people in their lives at the right times, and an amazing trauma therapist. I am excited to be a part of the Break Free Run team, to honor my friends and to help fund future prevention and education,” said Melody Melton, a Break Free Run participant and monthly donor.
Registration is open now at breakfreerun.org.
